Freedom Costs, So Make Good Use of It.
By Pastor Dave
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
Every July 4th, Americans celebrate Independence Day. On that day in 1776, the original thirteen colonies ratified the Declaration of Independence. This act declared their independence from Great Britain and was, in fact, a declaration of war. If the United States of America lost this war to the most powerful nation on earth, the signers of this historic declaration would lose everything, including their lives.
“You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make a good use of it.” -John Adams. As we celebrate our wonderful independence, may we never forget the cost to continue to live as we do.
As believers in Jesus, we have received such a great freedom, and it cost our Lord everything; however, He only had to defeat sin once. We are free people, as we are no longer bound by sin and death. May we make good use of this freedom from sin as we serve our Lord.
Though we inevitably sin, we are free from the power or dominion of sin. We don’t have to sin. The law of sin and death said that we had to sin and that we would die and be eternally separated from God. However, the law of the Spirit says that through Jesus we are free from the former law. Most of us will still die, but death no longer has lasting power over us. As believers, the last breath on earth will be the first breath in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus!
Hallelujah!!! What a Savior!!!
So let’s celebrate America this month, but every day we celebrate the fact that we are rescued, redeemed, and set free forever from sin and death!
In Galatians 5:1, the Message paraphrase says, “Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.”
